Optical discs are still used by more and more people. That's because they have a series of advantages, as they are cheap, are able to store a fair amount of data and they can be read by a large number of devices. Still, there are some downsides when it comes to optical discs. These discs can get easily scratched, putting all the data stored on them in danger.

That's why it's important to have your discs checked, to make sure that all the data stored on them hasn't been corrupted. An application which allows this is DVDInfoPro. This Windows program can do much more than just checking optical discs for reading errors, it can also display various optical drive and system component information, down to the smallest detail possible.

After the program is installed and launched, the user will be presented with a graphical and intuitive interface, which allows the user to easily access the program's features and options. The first tab displayed by DVDInfoPro, when launching it, it's the one with optical drive information. As such, the user will be able to view the list of disc formats which are supported by the drive, together with the buffer size, firmware version and so on. All the optical disc standards are supported by DVDInfoPro, including HD-DVD and Blu-ray.

The next tab of the application displays information about the CPU, memory, network card and other system components, in text mode. Thus, the user will know if the poor optical disc reading speed is also caused by a slow computer hardware, or only by the optical drive itself. Besides displaying hardware and optical drive information, DVDInfoPro can also scan any disc for reading errors and also for measuring the maximum speed, helping you find out how fast your optical drive is.

Pros

It allows you to view complete information about your optical drive, like the supported formats, buffer size, firmware version and so on. Besides that, it can display computer hardware information in text mode. Furthermore, it allows you to test the speed of your optical drive and also the integrity of any optical disc, by checking it for errors.

Cons

The computer hardware information tab may be difficult to read by some users, as it's in text mode. With DVDInfoPro, you will be able to view complete information about your optical drive and check any disc for reading errors.
